misbehavin'

misbehavin'Misbehavin' is a jazz cabaret quartet that has appeared to great acclaim at almost all of our previous five festivals.

The band comprises:

Helen Porter (vocals)
Helen is a versatile singer, theatre composer and much in demand as a vocal coach. Recent theatre projects as a coach include Dalston Songs and Twitterdaemmerung (the world's first Twitter Opera) for the Royal Opera House, ROH2 (winner of a 2010 Digi award). She runs singing master classes, courses and workshops throughout the year, and is the co-founder of Calstock Jazz & Blues Festival in the Tamar Valley.

Karen Wimhurst (clarinet)
Karen Wimhurst is an eclectic composer and performer working across classical, jazz and folk traditions. As composer in residence with Plymouth University, her works include the choral work We Breathe Trees, In Times of Flood for solo accordion and string orchestra and chamber opera Darwin and the Barnacle. She has her own company EcoCentrics, which is currently touring the eco-circus A Tipping Point as well as Fruit of Paradise, a song cycle celebrating the 21st anniversary of Apple Day. Her latest choral work 'Translated By Reeds' was premiered in Norfolk October 2012.

Robin Walter (guitar)
Robin has played guitar for many years. He formed Misbehavin' with Karen and Helen and has composed some of their most beautiful songs, including Some Other Time, the title track of their CD. When not performing with Misbehavin', Robin runs his own successful business as a chartered forester, specialising in trees for transition.

Ralf Dorrell (bass)
Ralf is very active on the South West music scene as a composer, performer (double bass, bass guitar and trombone), bandleader, ensemble director, lecturer, teacher and workshop tutor. As a performer he has played at music festivals both in the UK and abroad, and has performed on BBC Radio as well as on BBC1 and Channel 4 television. As well as playing double bass with Misbehavin', he runs his own quintet – Ten Thousand Things– as a vehicle for his own compositions. He is also a regular member of the Al Cubbin Quartet, the Mike Daniels Quintet and GBH Big Band.
